Prof. N. Balakrishnan

Prof. N. Balakrishnan was responsible for establishing Supercomputer Education and research Centre - SERC, IISc, one of the best high performance computing centers in India and is a national asset. This centre was established braving the denials from the United States, is currently used by over 2500 users. The campus wide Gigabit backbone is the largest in the country and has over 3000 Internet nodes and is considered a technology demonstrator worth emulating. The experience of building such innovative Computational Environments has helped Prof. N. Balakrishnan to work with TIFAC/DST in creating 7 High performance computing centres across the country, in augmenting 9 Bio Informatics Centres through DBT and in acting as the Chairman of Committee to decide on the Supercomputer at the NCMWRF. Prof. N. Balakrishnan is the National Coordinator for the Creation of Computer Emergency Response Team of India - CERT-IN. Prof. N. Balakrishnan was also instrumental in the creation of the National Centre for Science Information and its first Computerized Current Awareness Service. In the early 80's Prof. N. Balakrishnan developed a set of computer codes for the retrieval of bibliographic information using computer compatible commercial databases in five areas of science. He also played a key role in the creation of the Centre for Microprocessor Applications at the Institute in the early 80's. This centre trained 150 engineering college teachers in Karnataka and Andhra through 5 week intensive training programmes. These courses paved the way for the introduction courses on microprocessors in the engineering colleges.

Currently, Prof. N. Balakrishnan is the Indian PI for the Million Books to the Web Universal Digital Library Project- an International initiative involving USA, China and other countries. Prof. N. Balakrishnan and his colleagues in IISc and TUN, France have built all the necessary technologies for developing courseware and delivering them through the web and this has sown the seed for the First Indo-French Cyber University (FICUS). Prof. N. Balakrishnan is the National Coordinator for this programme. He has established excellent schools of research in Numerical Electromagnetics, High Performance Computing, Information Security, Digital Library and Language Technologies, Speech Processing and Multimedia. He started his career as a member of the Guidance and Control Laboratory of the Department of Aerospace Engineering. His colleagues and he were the first to design flight-worthy missile guidance hardware for radio-controlled sighting and command. He later extended this work to develop novel Code Division Multiple Access system for secure and error-free command and control of multiple missiles, data compression schemes for satellite imagery and video and their on board realization and the study of phased and active aperture radars for guidance applications. Prof. N. Balakrishnan has been very active in pursuing sponsored research of relevance to the nation. He has currently more than 30 sponsored research and consultancy projects with a total outlay of more than Rs.16 Crores. He serves as the Chairman of several PARCs including that for LCA Multimode radar and Clutter Characterization. He also serves as the member of the review teams of prestigious programmes such as Falcon (ADE), PAYAL (NPOL, Cochin), ASP (CABS), Radar Cross Section (ADA) and the ECCM of airborne platforms (LRDE). He was the Project Management Board Member of CABS and a member of the Council of Air Force Training College. He was/is a consultant to ADA, CABS, LRDE and ADE. Prof. N. Balakrishnan has been associated with more than 100 International/National Conferences / Symposia and /or delivered invited lectures in India and abroad.


Bindhumadhava B.S.

Prof. B.S. Bindhumadhava a is Sc 'F' & Associate Director, at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), MCIT, DietY, Govt of India Bangalore. He heads the Computer Networks & Internet Security Division.He has around 29 years of Industry & Information Technology experience. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Bangalore University, Post Graduate Diploma in Systems Management from NIIT and MS (Electronics & Controls) from BITS, Pilani. His current research interests are in Network & Internet Security, Real time systems, Agent Computing, Smart Grids, Self-Managing System software & Cyber Physical Systems Security. He has authored more that 3 journal papers, 30 refereed International & National Conferences papers and guided 20 masters and 100 undergraduates project students.He a fellow of Institution of Engineers (IE). He is Senior member & Chairman IEEE Computer Society, Bangalore, Immediate past Chairman Computer Society of India (CSI) Bangalore Chapter, Life member of Advanced Computing & communications Society (ACCS) and member ACM. Global Member Internet Society & Member Internet Research Task Force (IRTF). He is on several national committees of DST and standard bodies in the area of cyber-physical security & smart grid. He is also member of several engineering college board of studies (BoS) in Karnataka & AndhraPradesh


Dr. T Srinivas

Dr. T Srinivas received his ME (Integrated), PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan, during 1992-98. His Doctoral work was on Application of coupled mode theory to fiber and integrated optic waveguide structures and post-doctoral work was on tapered optical waveguide couplers and integrated optical amplifiers.He was the Chairman GATE, IISc Zone (2011-13), member of NBA (2010 - present).He has involved in several academic and professional activities. He is a reviewer for many journals and conferences, notably IEEE PTL, J of modern optics, JOSA, Sadhana, current science, etc. Dr. T. Srinivas involved in some sponsored research projects like National Programme on sMArt Structures & Systems (NPMASS), National Programme on Micro-optics and Nano photonics (NPMN). He is one of the members who formed a formal interest group called Applied Photonics Initiative in IISc. He is an active participant in many national and international conferences such as bi-annual Photonics conference in India, ICUMT, IEEE Sensors, OFC, etc. He also served as the General chair to International Conference on Optical Engineering (ICOE) organized under IEEE Photonics society with the support of VTU Belgaum. He holds the position of secretary of IEEE photonics society chapter Bangalore Section. He chairs the IEEE COMSOC chapter Bangalore Section. He also serves as the chapter co-ordination chair of IEEE Bangalore section. He supported several IEEE society chapters and many IEEE student Branches in Bangalore Section. His main area of research interest is Photonics Integrated Circuits, both theoretical and experimental, with application to optical communications and optical sensors and emerging interest is in the areas of optical biosensors and quantum photonics.
